Site Featured in MM&FF - October 7, 2002

The Mustang II Network is featured in the Cyber Stallions section of the November 2003 issue of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords magazine. Magazine editor Jeff Bauer gives the Mustang II respect in a very well written and complimentary article on the Mustang II and the Mustang II Network website.

A quote of the the last line of the article reads, "It's easy to see that this site - and the Mustang that inspired it - will soon have an equally sizable following." Considering the fact that MM&FF magazine specializes in the late model Mustangs, this is a great compliment. The text of the article can be found HERE.

A unique 2+2 owned by Gregory Suave of Michigan, is a prime example of a professionally modified Mustang II. The car is powered by a new 4.6L Cobra engine and is a real "head turner" everywhere it goes. A detailed article on the restoration is forthcoming but numerous photos can be found HERE.

King Cobra on Cover - December 5, 2002

Florida resident Ed Gribble's 1978 King Cobra graces the cover of January 2003 issue of Mustang Monthly magazine. The cover, shown to the left, would indicate a story on the 25th anniversary of the King Cobra, which was produced for only 6 months in 1978. The article has not been reviewed yet but will be included in the Tech Center once the issue is out of circulation.

Ed Gribble's King Cobra is an all original, unrestored car that was ordered with only 3 options: rear window defroster, tinted glass and the King Cobra Package. The car was delivered with the rare "radio delete" feature which meant that a radio was not installed. Click HERE to see photos of Ed's King Cobra.

New Build Tag (bucktag) Info - September 17, 2002

A possible explanation of some of the previously unknown codes on the build tag has been found. As you may know, the build tag was used on the assembly line to let the workers know which options to install on the car. Some known examples include the KC (Dearborn code) and KNG (San Jose code) which indicated that the car was to have the King Cobra option package installed. One other major item that the assemblers would have to know would have been the interior panel colors. That would mean that the interior panel color code would have to be on the tag.

While the seats and special trim packages have many different color options, the interior panels came in a limited number of colors. They would have been indicated by a single color code on the build tag. This is the list that is believed to be the interior panel color codes on the tag: A - Black, B - Blue, D - Red, G - Green/Avocado, J - Tangerine, K - Aqua, T - Chamois, U - Tan. It is still uncertain at this time as to which code would have indicated a white interior or the special cranberry interior. Check your build tags and see if this information holds true. Remember, this is the color code for the interior panels, not the seats (interior trim) colors.

1974 MVMA Section Completed - April 24, 2002

The 1974 MVMA Specification Form section has finally been completed and posted. This 28 page section contains a wealth of information concerning every technical aspect of the 1974 Mustang II. The MVMA Specifications Form is an information package that is filled out by all American automobile manufacturers prior to the production of the vehicle. Examples of some of the information included in the form are: headroom and legroom dimensions, engine component identification and dimensions, vehicle weights, materials used in manufacturing the vehicle and more. Just about every inch of the Mustang II is covered in the specification form in one manner or another. The form can be found under the 1974 section of the Tech Center or by following this LINK. The search feature from the homepage will also search the information in the MVMA form.

Due to the large amount of formatting and information, only the 1974 MVMA Specifications are currently available. The MVMA Specifications for the 1975, 1976, 1977 and 1978 model years will be added as time permits.

Shortly before 4:00 PM EST, the Mustang II Network recorded its 1 millionth page view hit to the site. Although the site was launched in August 1999, actual recording of hits did not start until February 2000. The Cobra II Silver Anniversary article, which first appeared on this site, was reprinted in the September 2001 issue of Mustang Times magazine. Mustang Times is the official magazine of the Mustang Club of America. The MCA has been very good about promoting and supporting the oft-neglected Mustang II.

A shorter version of the same article also appeared in the October 2001 issue of Mustang Monthly magazine. The last line of the article, which was added by the editor of the column, welcomes the Cobra II to the "classic club".

Local Radio Station Contest - July 27, 2001

A local radio station in Detroit recently held a contest in which the prize was a 1978 Mustang II Coupe. The 1978 Coupe, pictured here, is black with red cloth and vinyl interior and the 302 V-8 engine Alice 106.7 FM (Detroit) hosts a feature called the "Crappy Classic Corner" on Fridays and, for the last two weeks, has featured a "Crappy Classic" Giveaway. The week ending on July 20th featured a 1978 Granada as the prize. I visited the radio station recently and spoke to the DJ about calling the Mustang II a "crappy classic" and we both agreed that it is actually a nice car. . The car was provided to the radio station by a local Ford Dealer. The wording on the air was changed to a "not so crappy" classic in reference to the II. I guess it's all in the name of fun. At least the Mustang II got media attention for a short time.

Registry Hits 1000 Entries - July 10, 2001

The Mustang II Network Registry officially passed the 1000 entry mark today with 1001 registered cars in the database. The Registry is just over a year old and the 1000 mark shows that the Mustang II is still alive and kicking. The registry has received entries from 33 countries across the globe. By far the most popular Mustang II is the Cobra II followed closely by the King Cobra. The rarest Mustang II is the Stallion option package with only 3 registered to date. Approximately 31% of the registered Mustang IIs are under restoration which indicates an increased awareness of the long term potential of these soon-to-be classics. To find out more, visit the Registry Quick Statistics page. A special thanks goes out to all who have registered their Mustang IIs and those who continue to support our "lost ponies".

More information will be posted concerning the T5 as it becomes available. The photos are located in the Car Photos (by model) - Other section of the Photo Gallery.

Invoices are ready. - January 11, 2001

The Mustang II invoices are ready. Dale Rabe is the owner of the Ford copy of the factory invoices for all Mustang IIs. Only two invoices existed when the Mustang II was sold new, one went with the car and the other was kept at Ford. Dale saved the invoices from destruction when Ford was cleaning out old paperwork. He is now providing a full color copy of the original invoice for your Mustang II. This copy makes a great display piece for your car at car shows. Some cars shows will even award bonus points for documentation that is displayed with the car. The invoice describes all of the options and statistics on your car and the original prices of those options. For more information, click
HERE or contact us via email at stangii@mustangii.net.

New Bucktag Info. - January 4, 2001

Until recently, it was believed that a Mustang II assembled at the San Jose plant did not have a bucktag (build tag) attached to the car. Based on a recent email from a San Jose King Cobra owner, we have found a bucktag attached to a San Jose Mustang II. The tag was not attached in the same place as those on Dearborn assembled cars. Instead, the bucktag was attached to the LOWER radiator support just below the lower radiator hose. It was attached in the same manner except the screw hole is located in the lower right corner of the tag. Another interesting feature of the tag is the fact that the codes for a San Jose car are apparently different than that of a Dearborn car. For example, on a King Cobra assembled in Dearborn, the tag will bear a KC code. On this all original King assembled in San Jose, the code is KNG. This may explain some of the codes that have not been identified yet. A picture of this bucktag can be seen HERE. If you have a San Jose assembled car, please check the new location for the bucktag and send an email to stangii@mustangii.net with the information.
