I originally bought this Cobra II out of a wrecking yard with the intention of using it for a parts car for another Mustang II project. After I got it to my shop and ran the numbers, it turned out to be a legitimate V8 4 Spd Cobra II, but more importantly, it was extremely straight and totally rust free. I couldn't bring myself to take it apart.
With the original drivetrain gone, and painted an incorrect color (it was an originally Black and Gold), it just wasn't cost effective to restore this one. I had a lot of era correct speed parts around, so I figured why not hotrod it!
The car now has the following parts:
Earlier non-EGR 302
Weiand Intake
Edelbrock Carb
4 Row radiator
Motorsport Mustang II Headers
295/50/15 Rear tires
|
C4 Transmission
Manual Steering rack
Ford 9" rear end
Traction Bars
5 Lug front rotors
185/75/14 Front tires
|
I went with an "Arrest Me" Red paint with white stripes and a white interior. This little car turns heads wherever it goes. I knew I had done the right thing when it won 1st in it's class over some very stiff competition at a local show. (Not bad for a parts car!)
As luck would have it, I found a 77 Mustang II Coupe 2 weeks after we started on the Cobra, that project will likely start this winter.
